AIRPORT RENEWABLE FUELING THE FUTURE FUELS FOR QUEENSLAND

Brisbane Airport Corporation has become the newest Queensland Renewable Fuels Association (QRFA) member.

This comes following the recent Virgin Australia trial of delivering sustainable aviation fuel through Brisbane Airport’s general fuel supply system.

The successful trial was an Australia first, and an indication of Brisbane Airport as a domestic leader and positioning itself as one of the global players with sustainable aviation fuels.

The alignment with QRFA represents Brisbane Airport’s desire to continue its advancement in delivering sustainable fuels, while interconnecting with key stakeholders within QRFA’s domestic and global partnership network.

With an eager market, an abundance of biomass for feedstocks and numerous technology proponents interested in Queensland, Brisbane Airport has a significant enabling role to play with developing a regional hub for sustainable fuels.

QRFA Managing Director Larissa Rose was delighted with Brisbane Airport Corporation’s recent membership and welcomed the new opportunities to work together.

“This is a significant development for both QRFA and Brisbane Airport,” Ms Rose said.

“QRFA have gained another significant member, while Brisbane Airport have shown their willingness to show a leadership role in Queensland’s biofuels industry, while gaining the benefits of aligning with QRFA from paddock to parliament.”

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) Environment and Sustainability Manager, Wendy Weir, said, “We are committed to reducing Brisbane Airport’s impact on the environment and putting in place programs that help us to manage and minimise the long-term impacts of climate change.

“We are very proud to be the first airport in Australia, and one of only a few hubs in the world, to have biofuel as part of its fuel supply system as it will help reduce Brisbane Airport’s carbon footprint even further by assisting the airlines to reduce their emissions”.

Ms Rose said she was looking forward to Brisbane Airport and QRFA working together to drive further stakeholder engagement and even greater opportunities across the whole supply chain to advance the industry.
